Green County Youth Celebrate National 4-H Week
Fall

MONROE — National 4-H Week is Oct. 6-12 and Green County is celebrating all the great opportunities that 4-H offers young people to learn, grow and lead.

“I continue to learn and progress as an adult as I mentor youth in their interests that are not only my own children and their friends but also with youth from around the county with new and different interests and talents,” said Heather Watson, Co-Organizational Leader for the Cheese Country Clovers 4-H Club.

As part of the National 4-H Week festivities, Green County 4-H families will be showing their 4-H pride on Wednesday, Oct. 9 by wearing a 4-H t-shirt or a green shirt to school or work. 4-H clubs will also be putting up window displays in local communities throughout the county, showcasing the many opportunities 4-H offers.

“If I was to write down all the ways that 4-H has benefited my family it would fill an entire page,” said Katy Dickson, the Browntown Busy Beavers Organizational Leader and 4-H parent. “Yes, there are the fair projects that have allowed them to explore areas of interest but more importantly 4-H has taught them the soft skills that will benefit them throughout their entire lives. The opportunities to learn and practice communication, team dynamic, public speaking and leadership skills abound. 4-H is anything and everything that you want it to be.”

During 4-H Week and beyond, clubs celebrate the power of 4-H programs to empower young people. In Green County, 4-H is a program of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension, engaging more than 550 4-H members and 120 adult volunteers.

4-H is a place to be seen, belong, and be one’s best self. No matter interests or background, 4-H has a place for all.

“All the experience you get from volunteering and meeting new people,” Alayna Fiez said.

“Spending time doing fun activities,” Morgan Brugger said.
