Green County Veterans Memorial Park dedication set for Sunday

MONROE - The Green County Veterans Memorial Park Board is holding a dedication at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the park, located at the intersection of County N and Wisconsin 81.

The GCVMP will dedicate memorial bricks, the Battle Cross Memorial and three War Era Plaques. Previously dedicated were an entrance marker, several benches, flagpoles, flag lighting, bricks and landscaping.

Opening remarks will be given by GCVMP President Larry Ayres, followed by the Invocation, given by American Legion Auxiliary Unit 84 President Donna Douglas, and the Pledge of Allegiance, given by Alex Olson, GCVMP Board member.

Guest speaker is Clayton Ruegsegger, Green County Veterans Service Officer.

The reading of new donors for World War I, World War II and Korean War era plaques, bricks, Battle Cross statue and Base, and monetary gifts donations will be read by William Hustad.

Closing comments will be given by Larry Ayres, followed by TAPS played by Bruce Sutherland.

The Battle Cross Memorial, referred to as the Fallen Soldier Memorial, memorializes those who died in service to the country. Alliant Energy Foundation and Thrivent Financial donated funds for the Korean War Plaque. Roger Voelkli donated funds for the World War II Plaque in honor of Max Voelkli, WWI; Roger Voelkli, WWII; James Voelkli, WWII; Hugo Voelkli, WWII; and Jack Voelkli, Vietnam. William and Jackie Hustad donated funds to the World War I Plaque in honor of his grandfather, WWI veteran Olen Hustad.

The park board is currently seeking donations for the remaining plaques, which cost $3,000 each.
