MONROE — Members of the Green County REA, an affiliated chapter of the Wisconsin Retired Educators’ Association (WREA), contributed 15,365 hours valued at $489,528.90 serving more than 23 organizations in and around their communities. The Wisconsin Retired Educators’ Board of Directors commends the chapter and chapter members for giving back to other organizations and making a difference.
WREA members from around the state volunteered a total of 169,058.50 hours valued at $5,386,203.81 serving more than 1,050 organizations across the state of Wisconsin. WREA has about 7,000 members and 56 local chapters. Since 1951, WREA has served as a professional organization representing Wisconsin’s retired educational community.

Retired educators from around the state met in Monroe for spring event
The WREA met on May 7 at Turner Hall in Monroe for their Spring Regional event. This event brought together members from across the state under the theme: Planning, Growing and Blooming for WREA’s Success. Local members that attended the meeting include Jane Swiggum, Cheryl Stangel and Karen Olson, all of Monroe, as well as Shirley Lueschow and Harriet Wells of New Glarus, and Ruth Espenscheid of Argyle. The six local educators represented the Green County REA chapter.
In addition to exchanging up-to-date information, the meeting also highlighted year three of WREA’s five year Strategic Plan. Leaders addressed concerns and discussed solutions with members in attendance.
WREA Foundation Challenge Award winners from Wisconsin elementary schools provided videos highlighting their innovative project. Each winner received $2,000 from the WREA Foundation for their innovative project. The winners include:
