Green County medical students receive scholarships

MONROE - Dr. George Breadon, FACS, treasurer of the Green County Medical Society, recently presented seven $500 scholarships, from the Gavin Breadon Memorial Scholarship Fund, to Green County medical students.

Those receiving scholarships included:

• Lindsey Runaas, daughter of Jim and Georgia Runaas, Albany. A 2002 graduate of Albany High School, with a bachelor of arts in journalism from Ithaca College, New York in 2006, Runaas has just graduated M.D. from the UW School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison. In July she will begin a residency in Adult medicine at the UW Hospital, Madison.

• Ravi Patel, son of Dr. Vasudev and Bhavana Patel. A 2003 graduate of Monroe High School and a graduate of Notre Dame University with a degree in biological sciences in 2007, he has just completed his junior year at UW Madison School of Medicine and Public Health.

• John Cappel, son of Denis and Barbara Cappel, Monroe. A 2003 graduate of Monroe High School and a graduate of University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2007 with a degree in biomedical engineering, he has just completed his junior year at Penn State Medical School, Hershey, Pennsylvania.

• Bryan Simmons, son of Lyle and Eunice, R.N., Simmons, Menominee. A 2003 graduate of Monroe High School and a graduate of University of Wisconsin-Madison with a double major in chemistry and biochemistry in 2007, he has just completed his junior year at Duke University School of Medicine, Durham, North Carolina.

• Carlee Zeal, daughter of Thomas and Christine Zeal, New Glarus. A 2004 graduate of Monroe High School and a graduate of University of Wisconsin-Madison 2008, with a bachelor of science degree in natural sciences, she has just completed her sophomore year at University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health.

• Chris Kleppe, son of Gary, D.V.M., and Debra Kleppe. A 2001 graduate of MHS and a graduate of University of Wisconsin-Madison 2006 with a double major in genetics and bacteriology, followed by an master in science in 2007 in physiology and biophysiology from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., he has just completed his sophomore year at Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, Midwestern University, Illinois.

• Ian MacL. Stormont, son of Dr. Daniel and Dr. Annette Stormont, Monroe. A 2000 graduate of Monroe High School and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison 2005 with a degree in genetics. He has just finished his freshman year at the UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health.

Also, Andrew Rikkers, D.O., president of the Green County Medical Society, recently presented a check for $500 to the Monroe School District "Excellence in Education Fund," This is in principle with the GCMS's mission to promote and advance educational endeavors at all levels.
