Four fire departments responded to a hay bale fire at a farm east of Monroe on Friday, July 11. Fire departments from Monroe, Juda, Brodhead, and Monticello responded to a fire at the Dale Grossen farm on Ladwig Road around 10:33 a.m. Friday. Juda Fire Chief Steve Isley said the fire was most likely caused by combustion of around 20 round bales of hay in a 20 x 35 foot shed. The fire was reported by a passerby. Isley said firefighters were able to knock down the fire in about 10 minutes. About 25 firefighters in all responded to the fire. Assisting at the scene were the Green County Sheriff’s Department and Green County EMS.
