ARGYLE — The Argyle Public Library is hosting the program “Grassland Birds” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24 at Central 52, 300 E. Milwaukee St., Argyle. Speaker Cindy Becker of the Southwest Wisconsin Grasslands Network will be the presenter.
Grassland birds are a large part of summer sounds and sights in the Driftless Area that harbors some of the highest populations of grassland birds in the upper Midwest. Becker will teach about the life cycle and migration of the grassland birds. Attendees will be able to listen to their calls and learn about the value of grassland habitat to their survival. She will also touch on what local and regional organizations are doing to keep southern Wisconsin lands open and support grass-based agriculture and grassland conservation. Becker is the coordinator of the Southwest Wisconsin Grasslands Network. She worked for the Blue Mounds Area Project as the staff ecologist, and as a practitioner assisting landowners with land management.
