ORANGEVILLE - ACT, A Community Together, a non-profit organization focused on the development of the Orangeville area, has received $6,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois Community Needs Fund.
The grant will be used to support the purchase of a new press/duplicator for the Orangeville Alert, the twice-monthly not-for-profit community newspaper, according to Harry Bowen, president of ACT.
"The Alert was Orangeville's first newspaper, beginning publication in 1893. After its successor, the Orangeville Courier, ceased printing operations in the 1960s, the village was without its own newspaper until 1999, when The Alert was re-introduced to the community by John and Caryl Buford," Bowen said.
The Risograph EZ590 multi-function duplicator plus color cartridges is being purchased from Integra Business Systems, Rockford, IL, at a cost of roughly $12,000.
The community raised the initial $6,000 through major contributions by Community Bank of Orangeville, the Village of Orangeville, ACT, A Community Together, and John and Caryl Buford.
