JUDA — When Grande Cheese in Juda needed to take down a house on County S that was in the way of planned expansion, the company offered to let Habitat for Humanity of Green County take any items that could be reused.

A troop of six volunteers with tools arrived Nov. 16, helping themselves to doors, kitchen cabinets, a furnace, hot water heater, ceiling fan and other miscellaneous items, which will be used in rehab projects or sold in the Monroe store.

The deconstruction work took place under the guidance of veteran volunteer Roger Lindh at 9 a.m., and Habitat trailer was loaded and volunteers were enjoying lunch at headquarters by noon.

Habitat for Humanity Resale Store, 305 2nd St., is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The store offers building materials, appliances, furniture, housewares and hardware.

It is dedicated to keeping useable items in circulation rather than in a landfill.

Habitat for Humanity of Green County is always seeking volunteers to help with projects.

Anyone interested in volunteering can send an email message to board@greencountyhabitat.org or leave a voicemail at 608-329-4024.
