Julia Moore of the Lena, Illinois, American Legion Auxiliary presented an ALA Good Deed award to Ethan Rosenstiel of Monroe.

Ethan, 13 of Monroe, is the son of Kari and Dan Rosenstiel. Ethan had been asking his parents for three years to help him earn funds to donate to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Green County. He finally took it upon himself, and with the help of friends, planned a charity hockey game. Hockey is one of Ethan’s favorite pasttimes. Ethan and his classmates recruited 30 sponsors to contribute money or donate items for a silent auction. More than $5,000 was raised and donated to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Green County. The ALA Good Deeds program was established in 2012 by the National ALA to acknowledge youth who give of themselves unselfishly to help others.
