ALBANY - Brock Gilkes, a middle school student in Albany, recently won the school-level competition of the 25th annual National Geographic Bee.
Gilkes will have a chance now to advance to the next round for a chance at a $25,000 college scholarship.
School winners nationwide, including Gilkes, will now take a written test. Up to 100 of the top scorers in each state will be eligible to compete in their individual state competitions on April 5.
Winners of that competition will participate in national championship rounds held between May 20 and 22.
