MONROE - As part of the monthly meeting of the Green County Genealogical Society, the webinar "Finding Your Ancestors in Fraternal Organizations," presented by Rhonda McClure, will be held at 10 a.m. March 3 in the second-floor meeting room of the Monroe Public Library.
In this webinar, McClure will teach how to identify different fraternal organizations, provide valuable tools for locating a lodge and its records and discuss how these records can enrich family history research.
Refreshments will be available for 15 minutes before the meeting. Visitors are always welcome and there is no cost to attend. For more information, call Sharon Mitchell at 815-868-2416 or Donna Kjendlie at 921-1537. Leave a message if there is no answer.
The GCGS Research Center, located in lower level of the Monroe Public Library, is available to the public for research. Research Center hours are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and the third Saturday and from 1 to 3 p.m. the first Saturday of each month, after the monthly meeting. Main holdings are on Green County, but both Rock and Lafayette Counties are well represented along with several other counties, states, countries and ethnic groups. A large collection of births, marriages and obituaries is available. Volunteers are on staff to help with research.
