MONROE - Green County Genealogical Society member Sharon Mitchell will give a presentation concerning the 1940 census at the Green County Genealogical Society meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 7 in the second floor meeting room of the Monroe Public Library, 925 16th Ave.
The 1940 census was released to the public on Monday, April 2 and is the first census to be released online only. During her presentation, Mitchell will speak on the times, what can be learned from federal censuses and what questions were asked on the 1940 census.
Mitchell's maternal grandmother sparked her interest in family history in the 1960s and 1970s. Since then, she has attended numerous genealogy conferences and workshops, including the Federation of Genealogical Societies 2011 National Conference in Springfield, Ill., where she attended the session on the 1940 census given by Constance Potter, National Archives and Records Association archivist.
The Green County Genealogical Society meeting is open to visitors.
