GCHS offers spay/neuter clinic
dog

MONROE — The Green County Humane Society is excited to announce a low cost spay/neuter clinic on Saturday, Feb. 27. The program will be offering spots for 20 male cats to be neutered and 20 female cats to be spayed. There is a minimal cost. For the safety of their staff and volunteers, GCHS asks that all cats participating in the clinic are able to be handled. Additional services are available, including; rabies vaccination and microchipping of your pet. To reserve your appointment, please contact GCHS via email at shelter@

greencountyhumane.org or call 608-325-9600.

Some of the medical benefits include: your female pet will live a longer, healthier life. Spaying helps prevent uterine infections and breast tumors, which are malignant or cancerous in about 50% of dogs and 90% of cats. Spaying your pet before her first heat offers the best protection from these diseases. Neutering your male companion prevents testicular cancer and some prostate problems.

This program is brought to you in part through a partnership with the Werndli Charitable Trust, the United Way of Green County and a partnership with UW Veterinary School.

The Green County Humane Society (GCHS) is comprised of members, dedicated shelter staff, volunteers, a Board of Directors, and a growing network of foster homes. Due to the commitment of these people, the GCHS has gone from a 62% kill rate in 1999 to a No Kill status. Their mission includes:

●  Promoting compassionate and appropriate treatment of animals throughout Green and Lafayette Counties.

●  Realizing the need to educate the general public in areas of animal care, especially the need for spaying and neutering of animals to prevent further overpopulation.

●  Diligently assisting law enforcement and the general public in the effort to end animal abuse.

●  Devoted to the search for quality homes for every adoptable animal that comes into the shelter.

●  GCHS is dedicated to expanding the knowledge of and protection of animals in the community and in the world.
