ALBANY — In March of this year, GCDC announced a partnership program with Green County IT that provides refurbished computers to individuals that are low income, veterans, students, or seniors, and to small businesses and non-profit organizations.

While the program began with a slow start, in the past 30 days, 10 laptops and tablets have been distributed to individuals, small businesses, and non-profits, including the Albany Fire Department.

Fire Chief Brian Hauri applied for a gratefully accepted two laptops and two tablets, stating, “With the technology that GCDC has given Albany Fire, once up and running, it will enhance Fire’s capabilities to respond more efficiently and ease some pressure that dispatchers are faced on a daily basis, by making communications and call updates virtually immediate.”

The program focuses on the core values of Wisconsin’s Digital Equity Plan of adoption and sustainability, by providing access to engage in a digital society.

This program brings refurbished computers and similar devices to eligible Green County residents and entities at no cost. All applicants must live or work in Green County. Low-income people participating or eligible for government assistance, individuals 60 and over, veterans, students, non-profit organizations, and businesses in existence less than one year may qualify.

There are still many devices available, and plans are to continue the program well into the future. An application must be completed and can be obtained by calling 608-328-9452 or emailing gcdc@greencountydevelopment.com.  More information can also be found on GCDC’s website at https://greencountydevelopment.com/live-work/. Devices will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

GCDC is a 501c3 non-profit organization building public and private partnerships that catalyze economic growth in Green County, while maintaining the quality of life that makes our community a great place to live and work.
