JANESVILLE — Marcia Galvan, Janesville, has been hired to fill the new Project Coordinator position for the Southwest Wisconsin Workforce Development Board (SWWDB). She started Nov. 9.
SWWDB recently received a U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) grant to refine and implement workforce development solutions that assist individuals impacted by substance abuse and to advance the skills of workers who are dedicated to serving communities, individuals and families impacted by substance abuse. It is a project position expected to last at least through Aug. 2024.
As Council Coordinator, Galvan will work with local, regional and state partners to achieve grant delivery goals and address community needs.
Galvan most recently served as Community Development Director for the Rock Valley Community Programs, Inc., where she provided services based on accountability, safety and treatment that enhanced the community and the Criminal Justice System. She has extensive experience involving community outreach and development, along with integral involvement in obtaining millions of dollars in grant funding, including the agency’s first Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) grant for persons with substance use issues or related disorders after exiting incarceration.
Galvan was a Certified Peer Support Specialist/Facilitator for the RVCP and served as the Peer Support Supervisor. Her prior experience also includes serving as the Director of Research/Recruiter for a Roscoe firm, serving as a Banquets/Events Coordinator for a Beloit firm, and serving as a Human Resources Director/Administrative Assistant.
Galvan earned her A.S. degree from UW-Rock County, her B.S. from UW-Whitewater, has several certifications and was named the YWCA’s Woman of Distinction in 2012.
