Friends of the Chalet of the Golden Fleece receive grant

NEW GLARUS - The Friends of the Chalet of the Golden Fleece announce a grant award from the New Glarus Community Foundation, a component of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin. The grant will allow for continued restoration work on the chalet.

Last year's grant provided some interior window restoration and the replacement of the logs for the roof. This year's grant will provide the funding needed to replace the eavestroughs and downspouts. Because the chalet is on the historical register, the replacements will need to be replicas of the current gutters.

The Friends have just finished operations at the museum for their fourth year. Volunteers have provided more than 350 hours of service to the chalet this year in the form of guiding, inventory and routine upkeep and maintenance. Volunteers also provided a new floor for the first-floor restroom. Inventory of the collection is still ongoing.
