Free tax help available in Feb.

MONROE - Free homestead, federal and state tax help will be available from February through mid-April for low to moderate-income and elderly persons at Volunteer Income Tax Assistance/American Association of Retired Persons Tax Counseling for the Elderly program sites.

Appointments will be accepted starting Monday. To schedule a Wednesday appointment between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Behring Senior Center, 1113 10th St., call 325-3173.

Appointments are available between 9 a.m. and noon Mondays at Brodhead Public Library, 1207 25th St., and some Fridays at Albany Village Hall, 206 North Water St. Call the ADRC at 328-9499 to schedule at the Brodhead or Albany sites.

For taxes, bring a social security statement, social security card, last year's taxes and any income statements such as 1099s from pensions, investments, IRAs, interest, brokerage statements and W-2s. Also bring information about health insurance premiums paid. Taxes cannot be done where there is a business with more than $5000 in expenses, a working farm or apartment rentals. All returns will be e-filed for fast service.
