MONROE - Volunteer tax-aide counselors trained and certified by the Internal Revenue Service will provide one-on-one assistance helping low to moderate income people complete their 2010 tax returns. They will provide one-on-one assistance helping older low to moderate income people complete their 2010 tax returns. This includes tax forms 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, schedules A, B, C-EZ, C, D, L, and M and Wisconsin Tax forms 1, 1A, WI-Z and the Homestead Tax Credit claim. Counselors can determine if there is a filing requirement or if people are eligible for any credits that may be applicable.

People using this service should bring copies of their 2009 tax returns as well as their W-2s, 1099 forms, Social Security earnings (SSA-1099) and other relevant materials for 2010. A copy of 2009 and 2010 property tax statements or a rent certificate for 2010 is also needed.

In Green County, trained AARP volunteers are available to complete taxes. Volunteers prepare Homestead Credit forms as well as income tax forms. All forms are filed electronically. The service is free and begins in February 2011. Home visits are available if it is impossible to get to a tax preparation site.

Tax aide sites and times are: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesdays from Feb. 2 to April 14 at Monroe Behring Senior Center, Monroe; 9 a.m. to noon, Mondays from Feb. 7 to April 11 at Brodhead Public Library; 9 a.m. to noon, from Feb. 4 to Feb. 25, and Friday, March 25, at Albany Village Hall, Albany; and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Feb. 18 and March 18, at New Glarus-Sugar River Bank, New Glarus.
