MONROE - Four Monroe FFA members, Carmen Lawver, Danielle Van Leuven, Emily Leistikow and Cody Berndt, attended the 2008 Washington Leadership Conference June 17-22 in Washington, D.C. The National FFA Organization coordinates the Washington Leadership Conference.

The week-long program helps FFA members improve their leadership skills and prepare for leadership roles in their chapters and communities. Members attend workshop sessions on persuasive communication, character leadership, building relationships, and participate in discussions on citizenship. Students also learn about giving back to the community through volunteering at a local habitat park. A highlight of the week was a visit with Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin. They also tour Mount Vernon, Arlington National Cemetery, the Jefferson, Lincoln and Roosevelt Memorials and other historic sites in Washington, D.C.
