RIDGECREST, Calif. - Former Monroe resident Robert J. Schwaiger was presented with the prestigious Hiram Award Dec. 7 at the Indian Wells Valley No. 684 Masonic Lodge.
Schwaiger was born in 1939 in Monroe and graduated from Monroe High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1958 and served for 20 years as a parachute rigger instructor. He packed parachutes for the Blue Angels and was part of the rescue mission team for the Apollo 13 disaster.
Schwaiger is retired and lives with his wife Wanda in Ridgecrest. They have three children and three grandchildren. He has three brothers: Roger, Walter and Jerry Schwaiger, who still lives in Monroe.
