Food for Fines week begins Monday

MONROE - The Monroe Public Library will hold its sixth annual Food For Fines week Monday through Nov. 15 during regular library hours. The event, held every November, gives the library patrons an opportunity to reduce or eliminate their late fines at the library while helping those in need.

For every non-expired, non-perishable human or pet food item donated during the week, patrons will receive a $1 reduction in overdue library fines. There is no limit on the amount of fines that can be cleared, but fines for lost or damaged items are not eligible for the event. Dented, expired, unsealed, or items missing labels will not be accepted. All donated items will be given to either the Green County Inter-Church Food Pantry or the Green County Humane Society. The library averages about 1,000 items collected for those organizations.

The library will also accept both food and monetary donations from patrons that do not have fines.
