FREEPORT — After a long winter — and the stress of trying to stay healthy through a pandemic — it’s important to get outside and be active for better health. This spring and summer, families are invited to get out in the garden for some exercise, fresh air and — eventually — healthy, fresh produce this year by taking part in FHN’s Community Garden.

Spaces are available in FHN’s Community Garden for this growing season. The Community Garden is located behind the FHN Family Healthcare Center — Burchard Hills, 1010 W. Fairway Drive in Freeport. Applications for the 2021 growing season are due by Friday, May 28, and planting can begin as soon as the beds are prepared.

Community partners in the FHN Community Garden project include Sparrow Lawn; Anne’s Garden Center and Landscape Supply; Hasken Construction LLC; Fischer Excavating; Hunter Haven Farms; the City of Freeport; and the University of Illinois Extension.
