Tracey VanDeWoestyne, Browntown, talks about her best friends Lexey, a 3-year-old English springer spaniel, and Macey, a 10-week-old Brittany spaniel.
VanDeWoestyne and her husband Mark decided to get Lexey when their other dog at the time, Brooke, was getting older so they wouldn’t be without a dog. After Brooke passed away at age 13 in May, VanDeWoestyne said Lexey seemed sad. The couple recently decided to get Macey from a breeder in Woodford, where they had gotten their other two dogs, so Lexey would have a friend.

Describe Lexey and Macey’s personalities.
Lexey is devilish. If something gets set down she wants to have it for herself. If anybody comes to the house she will bark until you say hi to her. She wants all the attention on her. She’s super sweet, but she’s also my little devil.
Macey, so far, is a cuddler. She’s a little calmer and not high strung, although, Lexey is teaching her naughty things. She’s also super sweet and is learning things quickly.
What do you like to do together?
They’re great travelers. We have a small RV and they’re great with that. They like to play games like fetch and hide-and-seek. Lexey likes to sit on Mark’s lap for coffee in the morning.
What has it been like having Lexey and Macey in your life?
They’re a part of our family. They are family. I still get emotional about Brooke. They’re everything. They do everything with us.
