BENTON - The Father Samuel Mazzuchelli Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will host the annual mass to honor the Father Samuel Mazzuchelli at 3 p.m. Sunday Aug. 25 at St. Patrick's Church, 237 E. Main St., Benton.

Rev. Richard Leffler, Faithful Friar of the Mazzuchelli Assembly, will concelebrate the mass with other local clergy. Prior to the 3 p.m., mass guests will also have the opportunity to visit Mazzuchelli's grave site in St. Patrick's cemetery and his home where he died on Feb. 23, 1864. Following the 3 p.m. mass, the assembly will serve its annual steak or chicken breast dinner with rolls, salad, baked beans, baked potato, vegetable and desert in St. Patrick's reception hall.

In the summer of 2007, the Mazzuchelli Assembly Knights of Columbus restored the historic St. Augustine Catholic Church in New Diggings, that Mazzuchelli designed and built in 1844.

The Mazzuchelli Assembly members will provide tours of the restored St. Augustine Church that day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The assembly suggests a $5 donation for tours of the church. All funds will be used to complete the third phase of the restoration and preservation of the property, a visiting center to complement the church.
