BELMONT - The Iowa, Lafayette and Grant County Farm Service Agency offices and the University of Wisconsin-Extension are hosting a dairy Margin Protection Program informational meeting at 10:30 a.m. May 9 at the Belmont Convention Center, 103 W. Mound View Ave.
The Bipartisan Budget Act was signed into law in February and includes substantial changes to MPP-Dairy for the 2018 coverage year, including a new signup period for 2018.
All dairy operations must make new coverage elections for 2018, even if the operation was enrolled during the previous 2018 signup period. Coverage elections made for 2018 will be retroactive to Jan. 1, 2018. All dairy operations interested in MPP coverage must sign up during the enrollment period and submit form CCC-782 to enroll. Dairy operations may still "opt out" by not submitting a form. The enrollment period runs from April 9 to June 1.
The informational meeting will cover changes to the program, production history, coverage levels, premiums and the MPP-Dairy Decision Tool. All dairy producers are encouraged to attend.
The meeting is free and open to all producers. Call 935-2791 with questions.
Additional meetings have been scheduled in April and May throughout Wisconsin. To find a current listing, visit https://www.fsa.usda.gov/state-offices/Wisconsin/state-events/index.
Persons with disabilities who require accommodations to attend or participate in this meeting should contact Laurie Makos at 935-2791 ext. 2 or Federal Relay Service at 1-800-877-8339.
