MONROE - Family Promise of Green County and Green County Leaders 2012-13, with the help of more than 32 businesses throughout Green County, have teamed up to raise awareness of the growing homelessness problem.

Green County Leaders is launching the "Silver Lining Project," an effort to raise awareness and funds on behalf of Family Promise.

Bryce Reimer, network director for Family Promise of Green County, works with many local churches and volunteers to help homeless families get back onto better ground. In 2011-12, more than 1,000 people - which includes over 400 children - applied to Green County Human Services for help, many facing foreclosure or eviction from their homes.

"We have information going out to the school districts and businesses that are setting up tip jars and table tents in support of Family Promise, and we have silver lining bracelets for those who donate," Bryce said.

Brodhead High School Student Council's "Rock the Rock Valley" event started off the awareness drive on March 12.

From April 1 through 15, donations can be made to Family Promise in tip jars located at the following businesses in Monroe: Klondike Cheese; Dave Mosher and Associates; Alliant Energy; Badger State Ethanol; Woodford State Bank; The Green Door; Pancho and Lefty's Restaurant; Red Apple Restaurant; Bullets and Bonnie's Restaurant; Luna Maya Restaurant; Bartels Pub; St. Vincent De Paul; Monroe Java House; Country Garden; Reffue, Pas, Jacobson and Koster; and Precision Drive and Control.
