MONROE - Does early childhood education equal economic development? That question will be addressed at the 2009 Annual Green County Leaders Leadership and Education event, on Thursday, Oct. 22, in the lower level conference rooms in the Green County Justice Center, 2841 6th St. A reception with light refreshments will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the program beginning at 6:30 p.m

Keynote Speaker Richard Todd, vice president, Community Affairs, Federal Reserve Bank, Minneapolis, Minn., will share insights on the relationship between early education programs and local economic growth. Todd will discuss public investment in targeted early childhood development programs as an example of a promising economic development program.

"I want to show some initial findings from current pilot programs that are shedding light both on the logic of investments in early childhood development and the opportunities and challenges for improving it," he said, "including some early findings relevant to smaller communities and rural areas."

All interested persons are invited to attend. There is no charge for the event, but space is limited, so reservations are requested. RSVP to Green County Development Corporation at (608) 328-9452 or e-mail gcdc@tds.net to register.
