NEW GLARUS — Over 400 Euchre fanatics descended on New Glarus this past weekend for the 2024 World Euchre Championship, a Euchre tournament and fundraiser hosted by New Glarus Cares. Participants traveled from across North America and Canada, with one dedicated player even making the trek from Las Vegas to compete.

According to New Glarus Cares, the tournament was a resounding success, thanks in part to generous sponsorships from Bicycle Cards, Jack Link’s, New Glarus Brewing Company, Decatur Dairy, and New Glarus Fest Haus, as well as the New Glarus business community, local volunteers, exhibitors and participants.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support of our event sponsors, table sponsors and volunteers,” said Mary Siegenthaler, tournament director and board member for New Glarus Cares.

The weekend featured two thrilling competitions: a singles tournament on Saturday, won by Yamuna Reddi, of Chicago, with an impressive 107 points, and a doubles tournament on Sunday, clinched by Team Wolf (Todd Wolf of Washington D.C. and Judith Wolf of Dubuque, Iowa) with a final score of 105.

As the largest annual fundraiser for New Glarus Cares, the event’s proceeds will be used to construct a new inclusive playground at Candy Cane Park.

“I’m absolutely thrilled,” Siegenthaler said. “Everyone had a fantastic time, and we’re well on our way to reaching our fundraising goals.”

The championship’s success was a testament to the strong community spirit of New Glarus, with over 50 volunteers, numerous food vendors and exhibitors, and over 70 local businesses contributing to the event. While final revenue figures are still being tallied, initial reports suggest a highly successful fundraising effort.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended and everyone who made this event possible,” Siegenthaler said.
