APPLE RIVER - The winners of the Eagle Nature Foundation's School Essay and Art Contest were announced Nov. 1 in Galena, Ill.
Thorin Croushore of Monticello Public Schools, Monticello, was the winner of the junior high school essay contest. Croushore received a trophy and $100 and his school received a plaque and $50.
Madeline Zirkle, Dakota Junior-Senior High School, Dakota, received third place, $25, in the essay contest.
Samantha Wirth, Dakota Junior-Senior High School, Dakota, was the winner of the junior high school division of the nature art contest. She received a trophy and $100 and the Dakota school received a plaque and $50.
Matthew Andrews, Monticello Public School, Monticello, placed fourth and received $10, in the junior high school division of the nature art contest.
