MONROE - The Green County Area Entrepreneur and Inventor group will introduce its 2011 year with a series titled "Resources for Business." The first of the series will feature the Small Business Development Center. The meeting is set for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 7 at the AmericInn Lodge conference room in Monroe. The meeting is free and open to the public. Refreshments are available.

Gary Smith, director of the Small Business Development Center, Platteville, will share the role of the SBDC as a service and as a network. Some of the more common services will be discussed, as well as how the SBDC interfaces with other resources in the region and state. The presentation will also visit some websites commonly discussed and used in SBDC counseling sessions.

Directing the Southwest Wisconsin SBDC since 2005, Smith brings more than two decades of experience in business as a manager and consultant. Management positions with Toyota and Litton provided the experience and understanding to undertake a senior principal consulting role at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, working with international business clients from the manufacturing, retail and service industries. Working with start-ups, small, large and international businesses, Smith's experience includes operations, operations planning and process improvement projects, supply chain management as well as assisting clients in the development of strategic business plans, marketing plans and customer service plans.

In addition, those attending will have time to introduce themselves and share a little about themselves and their invention, business or business idea. Participants should bring business cards and network with other inventors and entrepreneurs.

The Green County Area Entrepreneurs and Inventors is an informational forum where entrepreneurs, inventors, new businesses and people thinking about starting their own businesses can come together to encourage each other and share challenges and successes. The group meets monthly, usually on the first Monday of the month. More information about the group is available on the GCDC website www.GreenCountyEDC.com or by contacting GCDC at gcdc@tds.net or (608)328-9452.
