For Earth Day 2023, the Friends of the Badger and Sugar River trails organized a trail cleanup day.
The Prairie Enthusiasts help maintain some original prairie trailside between Monroe and Monticello. Because of this we were aware of a particularly messy spot that had big trash requiring trucks and trailer. There were clothes dryers, a refrigerator, water heater, barrels, fence wire, etc.
Volunteers Frank Grenzow, Tom Mitchell, Ralph Henry, Rita and John Novak showed up and got the spot cleaned up. The items were hauled to Behr recycling for disposal and recycling.
Monroe High School’s Club Earth held a week-long series of projects to celebrate Earth Day, which was held on Saturday, April 24. The projects included a cleanup of the campus courtyards and making edible seed art. The club also made seed bombs, which have a hodgepodge of seeds mixed into a ball than can be thrown and scattered across a garden, yard or flower bed.
