MONROE - Missionaries Matt and Megan Durkee will be sharing their experiences while serving with The Water of Life Well Drilling Project with a presentation at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Monroe United Methodist Church, 2227 4th St.

With fresh water in short supply, women and children must walk up to 10 miles in dangerous conditions to obtain clean water. In an effort to help these impoverished communities tap into the aquifer existing beneath the ground, Friends In Action International began the Water of Life Well Drilling Project in the African nation of Burkina Faso in 2006.

Friends In Action International, operating from offices in the US, Canada and the United Kingdom, exists to facilitate and equip mission work around the world. Its purpose is to provide services to those in need while providing the opportunity to spread the word of the Gospels.

The Durkees met while serving in Burkina Faso in 2012, where Matt Durkee was part of a Water of Life well-drilling team based out of Canada, and Megan Durkee was teaching at an international school in the capital city of Ouagadougou. The couple has spent the last year in the United States and Canada fundraising and sharing the Water of Life vision but will be returning with their daughter to continue their work in Burkina in early August.

A potluck-style salad lunch will begin at noon. Those who want to participate in the meal are asked to bring a dish to share. The program is open to the public. Those who are not interested in taking part in the meal can attend the presentation.

A free-will donation will be taken to benefit the Durkee family and their work with the Water of Life project.

Reservations are not required but are asked for the meal. To RSVP, call 608-325-8563 or contact the church office at 608-325-6700.
