Downtown Unlocked event opens doors to Freeport’s hidden potential
Community Brief

FREEPORT — The Greater Freeport Partnership will host Downtown Unlocked, a one-of-a-kind event offering exclusive access to the interiors of Freeport’s historic downtown buildings. Set for 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11, this immersive experience invites business owners, developers, and dreamers to explore the untapped possibilities of these architectural gems.

Participants will begin their journey at the Karcher Block Pocket Park, located at 17 W. Stephenson St., where they’ll check in and receive a map of featured properties. From there, attendees can tour several properties, each brimming with potential for retail, office, residential, or creative use. The goal of the event is to promote spaces in the downtown district for new and existing business owners to view and ask questions in a commitment-free format. ●

“This event is about reimagining what’s possible,” said Partnership Event & Engagement Manager Katie Gentz. “Whether you’re seeking your next storefront, studio, or office space, Downtown Unlocked is your key to discovering the future you could build within these walls.”

The event is a self-guided tour. Participants are encouraged to visit as many properties as they would like within the timeframe allotted. Information about each property will be available in a short-form booklet with representatives on hand at each property to guide you and answer questions.

“The goals of Downtown Unlocked are crucial to the economic sustainability of not only downtown Freeport, but throughout the city and county. Residents, visitors, and businesses want a shopping, dining, and entertainment district that continues to attract and retain people to our region. Filling vacant storefronts with vibrant businesses and business owners who collaborate for the success of all is pivotal to downtown,” said Executive Director Andrea Schultz Winter.

The event is free to attend although registration is appreciated to ensure there is enough material available. Register at greaterfreeport.com/availableproperties or call 815-233-6301.

The Greater Freeport Partnership is a catalyst for dynamic economic growth fostering an inclusive environment where businesses thrive, and our community prospers.
