FREEPORT - Emergencies happen all the time - are you ready? The Freeport Downtown Development Foundation is hosting a fun-filled way to learn about preparing for emergencies - I.C.E. - In Case of Emergency.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, at the Tutty Crossing Park, which is located at 240 E. Stephenson St. next to the bridge in Historic Downtown Freeport.

The title sponsor of the event is the Firefighter's Union Local 441 and community level co-sponsors of the event are FDDF and Freeport Health Network (FHN).

Representatives from Freeport Fire Department, Freeport Police Department, Stephenson County Sheriff's Department, Stephenson County Emergency Agency, Red Cross, Salvation Army and FHN Emergency will be displaying information, emergency vehicles and participating in demonstrations. Some of the demonstrations will include animal first aid, fire extinguisher training, robot demo, tour of the mobile command center, and a defibrillator demonstration.

Other area organizations that will be displaying information will be Friends of the Pecatonica, Jane Addams Prairie Path, Stephenson County Ham Radio Group and WFPS/WFRL/WEKZ Radio.

Family activities will also be plentiful - parents will be able to have their children finger printed and have a DNA kit and an identification information packet created for them too. Children will be able to sit in a fire truck and tour the inside of an ambulance. There will also be a Smoke House display that teaches children how to prevent fires as well as what to do when there is a fire in their home.

Food vendors for the day will be FDDF, Kiwanis and the Jaycees. Music and announcements are being provided by the Big Radio Mobile Vehicle and the Freeport Area Chamber of Commerce.

Free parking is available in both the City and Newell-Rubbermaid lots located on Stephenson and Exchange. Handicapped parking is available on-site at Tutty Crossing Park.

FDDF is still looking for sponsors - so if you would like to help sponsor this community event, or if you have any questions about the I. C. E. Event, contact Cal Wescott (815) 235-4911 or Marg Blum (815) 233-5626.
