MONROE — The Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Green County is inviting adults living with diabetes, as well as their caregivers, family members, and friends, to take part in Healthy Living with Diabetes, an evidence-based self-management workshop beginning Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the Monroe Public Library.
Developed and researched at Stanford University, the program has been shown to boost confidence and reduce hospitalizations, doctor visits, and emergency room trips for people managing diabetes.
The six-week series meets once a week for 2.5 hours, guiding participants through practical strategies for managing diabetes in everyday life. Topics include; understanding the basics of diabetes, healthy eating and meal planning, reading nutrition labels, fun and easy ways to stay active, foot care and preventing complications, managing blood sugar levels, communicating effectively with your doctor and loved ones, and much more.
“This program is about giving people the tools and support they need to feel in control of their health,” said Laura Steiner, ADRC’s Education & Prevention Specialist. “In just 15 hours over six weeks, participants can gain skills that make a real difference.”
Spots are limited, and pre-registration is required. Participants are welcomed to register with a spouse, relative, or friend for additional support.
Call the ADRC Green County Office at 608-328-9499 to sign up or visit their website at www.adrcgreencounty.org.
