MONROE - The Green County Genealogical Society, will meet at 10 a.m., Nov. 6.
Bev Deininger will speak to the meeting, in the upper level of Monroe Public Library.
Having gone to a one-room school, Deininger will relate her experiences with stories and other information. Deininger's interest in country schools began when she was asked to do a newspaper article for a Brodhead celebration. She asked a friend to help her with the article, and her interest blossomed thereafter. Green County country schools in the area were closing in the early 1960's and students were being transferred to public schools.
Deininger grew up in Decatur township, a short distance from the Badger School. She attended Badger School for eight years. It closed and was torn down shortly after 1960.
Deininger and her husband live on a farm in rural Brodhead. She also enjoys working at a rural Brodhead greenhouse and at TenEyck Apple Orchard. She has done family genealogy off and on for 25 to 30 years.
Those attending are encouraged to bring old photos of Green County country schools, with or without students.
The Green County Genealogy Society has two new publications available - the 1873 Green County Atlas; and the Albany Township Cemetery Inscriptions.
Both are in hard copy and available from the society.
A short business meeting will precede the program and the meeting is open to anyone interested in pursuing family history. Refreshments will be served following the meeting. The Research Center will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. at 1609 10th St., Suite 4, Monroe.
