MONROE - Ready, aim, shoot! For a 20th consecutive year, the Monroe Arts Center (MAC) will host its annual Photography Contest and Exhibit. Photographs entered in this contest will be on exhibit in the MAC Frehner Gallery from Sept. 3 through Sept. 26.
The contest offers three separate classifications:
Junior Classification - under 18 years of age/any type of camera;
Adult Beginner Classification - a person with minimal experience and/or no course training;
Adult Advanced Classification - a person having any photography experience, course training, or photographs previously published in one form or another.
Participants may enter up to two photographs in any of the following categories: Black and White, Landscapes, People, Buildings, Unclassified, Mixed Media, and the 2009 Changing Category is Reflection. Photographs in this category can be created using the elements of water, glass, mirrors, etc., and they should include strong elements of design and composition. All photographs must have been taken after Jan. 1, 2008, and must be a minimum of 8-by-10-inches and maximum of 16-by-20-inches. All photographs must be framed and suitable for hanging in Frehner Gallery.
First-, second-, and third-place ribbons will be given in each category and classification based on merit and number of entrants. Cash awards are as follows: Adult Classification: $125 for Best in Show, $75 first runner-up, and $50 second runner-up; Junior Classification: $50 Best in Show, $30 first runner-up, and $20 second runner-up.
The entry fee for this contest is $20 per photographer. Participants may enter up to two categories and no more than a total of two photographs. The deadline for entering is Friday, Aug. 14.
