WHITEWATER — Michael Garcia, Darlington, is among the students involved in the production of “God of Carnage” with the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Department of Theatre/Dance.
Director Bruce Cohen and the cast and creative team took on the challenge of creating a digital production this year to promote a safer environment for the audience. All aspects of the production were affected by the change, including scenic and lighting elements, costumes and stage direction.
“God of Carnage” was the Tony Award winner for “Best Play” in 2009. Marcia Gay Harden and Mathew Warchus also received “Best Actress in a Play” and “Best Director of a Play” for their roles in the Broadway production of God of Carnage.
The plot centers around a playground altercation between eleven-year-old boys in Brooklyn. The altercation brings together two sets of parents for a meeting to resolve the matter. At first, diplomatic niceties are observed, but as the meeting progresses, and the rum flows, tensions emerge and the gloves come off, leaving the couples with more than just their liberal principles in tatters.
Garcia, who is studying journalism, is a cast member performing the role of Alan Raleigh.
“God of Carnage” will be released on Tuesday, April 27 and is available for viewing through Sunday, May 2. To purchase tickets to view the digital production, visit ShowTix4U.com.
