DARLINGTON - Classes in the Darlington Community School District will begin on Sept. 5 with a 7:55 a.m. reporting time for students.
Buses will run normal rural routes and will pick up city students at the swimming pool parking lot, the Darlington Municipal Building, or at the festival grounds parking lot, behind Casey's. The pick-up point for students at the municipal building will be at the northeast corner of the building on Wells Street.
All kindergarten through eighth-grade students should enter the school at the appropriate entrance and report to their assigned homerooms. School personnel will be on hand to direct students to homerooms.
At the high school students should report to their respective homerooms on Sept. 5. Homeroom assignments will be posted. Darlington High School will be using the opening-day schedule with class meetings at the end of the day. High school students will have pictures taken on Sept. 8.
Students need to have money deposited in their accounts on or before the first day of school. Students in grades 4K to fourth grade have a $5 book fee and students in grades five through eight have a $10 book fee. An optional athletic card is available for K-12 grade levels for $15 as well. Grades 9-12 have a required $10 book fee and $5 activity fee.
A new fee added for grades 9-12 is a Chromebook rental fee of $50 for each student. Seventh-graders and above will have an extracurricular fee of $50 per student or $100 per family for participation in school-sponsored extracurricular activities. The fee will be waived for all families that fill out the free or reduced lunch forms, even if they do not qualify for the program.
Lunch monies and student fees may be paid by stopping at the high school office at any time and at the elementary middle school office beginning Aug. 14. High school fees will also be collected on picture day. Separate checks should be used for hot lunch and fees.
