DARLINGTON - Plans for school orientation and an open house at Darlington Elementary Middle School have been announced.
Students and parents are encouraged to attend a combination orientation and open house Aug. 30.
Students in grades K-4 are invited to visit anytime between 4 and 6 p.m. Staff will be available to take grade K-4 students new to the district on a tour of the building from 4 to 4:45 p.m. Class lists will be posted in respective wings, and students are invited to bring school supplies to place in their new classrooms.
Any new fifth- to eighth-grade students who have scheduling questions or would like a tour of the building are invited to stop at the guidance office at 4 p.m. A special orientation session will be held in the gymnasium for students entering fifth grade, as well as any students new to sixth, seventh and eighth grades from 5 to 5:30 p.m.
After a brief presentation, students will be introduced to staff. After reviewing schedules, students will be able to locate homerooms, classrooms and lockers. Students in grades 5-8 who are unable to attend orientation will receive their schedules Sept. 5.
Parents are invited to stop in the office to deposit funds in students' electronic lunch accounts, as well as any required fees, beginning Aug. 14. All K-8 students are encouraged to pay their book fee ($5 for K-4 and $10 for grades 5-8), co-curricular fee ($50/student or $100/family for participation in school sponsored middle school athletics), and athletic card (optional $15) as well. The co-curricular fee will be waived for all families that fill out the free/reduced lunch forms, even if you do not qualify for the program. Assignment books also will be available for purchase for students in grades 4-8. Separate family checks for lunch, assignment books and fees are requested.
