Darlington - The City of Darlington Police Department will be hosting its annual Police Brat Feed and Ball Game Aug. 3 at Riverside Park, behind Piggly Wiggly. Officers will be serving brats, hot dogs, burgers, chips and beverages beginning at 5 p.m. and will sell until they are sold out.

At 7 p.m., law enforcement officers from area agencies will comprise "The Enforcers" softball team that will face up against "The Community All Stars" team, which is comprised of various Darlington business representatives and community members.

This is the 20th year the department has hosted the event, which benefits prevention programs in Darlington, like the Darlington Drug Abuse Resistance Education program. The Darlington D.A.R.E. program is taught in first and third grades at Holy Rosary Catholic School, as well as fifth grade at the Darlington Elementary/Middle School. It includes follow-up presentations in seventh and eighth grades, as well as a role model program in the junior and senior levels. In addition, the program provides scholarships to graduating Darlington High School seniors. The goal of the D.A.R.E. program is to heighten relations between the police and youth and to reduce the use of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs and the use of violent behavior by young people.

The event is open to the public. Free-will donations will be accepted for the meal.
