Darlington Cinco De Mayo Festival set for May 9

DARLINGTON - The Cinco De Mayo Festival, sponsored by numerous businesses and associations, will begin at noon May 9 at the Darlington Festival Grounds.

The free Hispanic musical and cultural event is open to the public. Events include: food booths; a salsa tasting contest; arts and crafts booths; and children's games and inflatable rides.

A dance, featuring the band La Brisa, will wrap up the festival; the cost is $10 per person. Those who attend need to be 21 years and older, unless accompanied by a parent.

The opening ceremony at noon will feature the elementary/middle school student choir under the direction of band director John Bausch. Ballet Folkloric National of Milwaukee will perform at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

A talent show is set for 2 to 4 p.m. The salsa-tasting contest will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.; those who attend can vote for their favorite. A performance by Mariachi Harvard is set for 5 to 8 p.m.

Tournaments of soccer at the Black Bridge Park, as well as basketball at Riverside Park and kickball at Sieg Field, will be held.
