DARLINGTON — The first dance at the Driver Opera House in Darlington in 68 years will be held from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13. The event will feature Ken Kilian and his orchestra.
Musical styles from the Big Band era will be on for dancing and listening. The event is meant to help appreciate an era when live dance music brought people together.
The Driver Opera House is located on the corner of Main Street and Ann Street in Darlington and is a historic landmark in the process of being restored. The Driver Opera House is not yet handicap accessible, but limited events can be held in the second floor flat-floor opera house for individuals who would like to dance and enjoy the sounds of Ken Kilian’s Orchestra all afternoon on Sunday, Oct. 13.
The week before, interested individuals and couples can attend a dance class from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10. Dance instructors Jalaine Ruegsegger, Kim Havens, Kalee Crist and Joe Keyes will assist anyone who would like to review or learn the dancing styles of the waltz, foxtrot, swing and polka. If interested in the dance class, email Leona Havens at info@driveroperahouse.org for more information
