Dancin' competes in regionals

CHICAGO - Dancers from Studio M Dance Academy competed at Hollywood Connection Dance Competition and Convention Chicago Regionals the weekend of March 2.

The competitive dance team, Dancin', performed five dance pieces.

Jessica Shaker and Troy Carpenter competed in a lyrical duet called "Who You Are," which received a gold award and placed third in the regional.

Jesse Anderson, Carpenter, Brianna Karlen, Lauren Keegan and Shaker competed in a hip hop piece called "Friends Sold Separately," which received a gold award and placed third in the regional.

Anderson, Carpenter, Karlen, Keegan and Shaker also competed in a jazz piece called "Everyone Wants to Be Beautiful," and a lyrical piece named "The Winner Is," both of which received a silver award.

Anderson, Brianna Becker, Carpenter, Bailey Hoesly, Keegan, Karlen and Shaker competed in a piece named "Judas" in the open category and received a silver award.

Carpenter received an individual award of a scholarship to nationals in Anaheim, Calif. this summer.

Molly Campbell, artistic director and co-owner of Studio M, choreographed four of the dance pieces. Carpenter choreographed the hip hop piece under the direction of Campbell and Megan (Campbell) Jorenby, co-owner of Studio M. Keegan and Breanna Ostrander were backstage dressers.

The competition was held in conjunction with a learning convention where the dancers participated in master classes from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
