MONROE - An opening reception for the exhibit "Crystals: Fire and Ice" is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 5, at the Monroe Arts Center Frehner Gallery. An artist's talk is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

The two-person exhibit is a combination of ceramics and photography. The artists are New Brighton, Minnesota, porcelain ceramic artist, Lois Ann Helgeson; and Rockford photographer, Thomas Brain.

Helgeson creates crystal formations on the surface of clay using heat during the firing process, and Brain photographs crystals that are formed in snow and ice.

Brain has been a photographer and business owner in the Rockford area for over thirty years. He uses the language of photography to convey an emotion or thought. In this exhibition he turns his lens towards the natural beauty of snow, ice, and frost.

This event is free and open to the public from Friday, Nov. 5 to Nov. 26.

This exhibit has been made possible by Monroe Arts Center Corporate Underwriter- Colony Brands Inc. and Season Media Underwriters Monroe Publishing, LLC and Big Radio, with additional support from Michael and Shelley Muranyi; Pete Guenther and Barb Woodriff; and Lee and Chris Knuteson.
