MONROE - The Monroe CROP Hunger Walk will begin with registration at 11 a.m. Oct. 8 at St. John's UCC, Monroe. The walk starts at noon. Walkers have a choice of a 2.5- or 5-mile route. Both routes wind through Monroe and then follow the Badger State Trail. This is a family-friendly, dog-friendly and faith-friendly event.
Since the first CROP Hunger walk sponsored by Church World Service in 1969, more than 5 million walkers have participated in over 36,000 walks. Last year, over $10,000,000 was raised by 120,000 walkers to combat hunger locally and overseas. This year marks the third recent CROP Hunger Walk in Monroe.
This year's goal is to raise over $5,000, a portion of which will stay in Green County to help with hunger issues. The rest will be sent worldwide. In the past, local proceeds have supported the Green County Food Pantry and Green Cares Food Pantry in Monticello.
Team sign-up sheets are available for those who want to get a group of people involved. Being part of a team is not required. Single walkers are welcome, and youth groups are encouraged to participate. Cake and a healthy snack will be provided.
