MONROE - The Green County Veterans Park Committee dedicated memorial bricks, the Battle Cross Memorial and additional benches at the veterans park, located at the intersection of County N and Wisconsin 81, on Memorial Day weekend. Several benches, flagpoles, flag lighting and landscaping were completed.

The Battle Cross Memorial, commonly referred to as the Fallen Soldier Memorial, memorializes those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the country. The Battle Cross Base is currently in production and is not displayed yet.

The park committee is ready to install War Era Plaques. The Alliant Energy Foundation and Thrivent Financial have donated funds for the first plaque. The committee is currently seeking donations for the remaining five plaques that cost $3,000 each.

Bricks can still be purchased to be installed at the park by contacting Jackie Hustad at 608-527-2942 or jhustad7@yahoo.com. Bricks and the War Era Plaques will be dedicated around Veterans Day. The deadline for bricks to be installed is Monday for the Veterans Day weekend.

The Green County Veterans Park board is composed of Larry and Karen Ayres, Bill and Jackie Hustad, Alex Olson, Bruce Sutherland, Morlin Zimmerman, Donna Douglas and Sheryl Tschudy.
