ALBANY - The Albany Historical Society has photos on loan from Kim Tschudy of New Glarus in recognition of the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the American Civil War. All photos are from the Library of Congress collection.

The photos will be on display at least until the end of February. The museum is open from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. Special tours of the museum are available upon request.

A number of photos depict parts of the Civil War that little is known about. Included in those photos are the Christian Commission, the U. S. Sanitary Commission and field medicine. Photos can be seen of Robert Anderson, the Union officer in charge of Fort Sumter when it was attacked in 1861 and where the Civil War started. Anderson also played a part in the Blackhawk War of 1832.

Also included are some of the Confederate generals and the governmental officials of the Confederacy. Pictures show the aftermath of Gen. Sherman's March to the Sea and the destruction his army left behind. Some of those men in Sherman's Army had ties to Green County, including the 1st Brigade Band from Brodhead which accompanied Sherman's Army on the March to the Sea.
