Civil War medicine topic for GCGS Feb. 3 meeting

MONROE - Dr. Gordon Dammann will present "Civil War Medicine Hollywood Version: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" at the Green County Genealogical Society meeting at 10 a.m. Feb. 3 in the second-floor meeting room of the Monroe Public Library.

Dr. Dammann was an army post dental surgeon and captain (1969-70) and is a retired dentist from Lena, Illinois. He is founder of the Lena Area Historical Society as well as the National Museum of Civil War Medicine. A certified guide at the Antietam National Battlefield, he has received several awards for involvement and participation in numerous historical societies. Civil War medicine is his area of expertise and he has published or edited various historical publications.

The GCGS Research Center, located in lower level of the Monroe Public Library, is available to the public for research. Center hours are from 1 to 3 p.m. the first Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and the third Saturday of each month. Main holdings are on Green County. Both Rock and Lafayette Counties are well represented along with several other counties, states, countries, and ethnic groups. Clippings of births, marriages and obituaries are available.
