BRODHEAD — The City of Brodhead is pleased to announce that it has been awarded $72,295 from the Wisconsin Department of Revenue Innovation Planning Grant to conduct a feasibility study on consolidating emergency dispatch services from the Brodhead Police Department, City of Monroe Police Department, and Green County Sheriff’s Office into a unified public safety answering point (PSAP). This initiative aims to improve response time, enhance interagency communication, reduce costs, and increase service quality across the county.
The study will be conducted by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) and will evaluate the current call processing and workload, quality assurance and improvement, emergency medical dispatch, training and operational redundancy. It will also include a cybersecurity and technology assessment across the three law enforcement agencies cited previously.
“This grant provides us with a critical opportunity to explore how we can modernize and streamline emergency dispatch services,” said Brian Raupp, Chief of the Brodhead Police Department. “By studying the feasibility of a regional approach, we aim to determine how best to support our first responders and the communities they serve.”
The feasibility study will examine potential cost savings, infrastructure needs, technology integration, staffing considerations, and governance structures. Findings from the study, to be completed by July 2025, will inform future decisions regarding the implementation of a consolidated regional dispatch center.
The Innovation Planning Grant is funded through the Wisconsin Department of Revenue which supports initiatives that seek to improve public services through collaboration, efficiency, and innovation. Green County Development Corporation, the City of Brodhead, City of Monroe, and Green County Sheriff’s Department worked collaboratively to write the grant, recognizing the need after discussions on the topic.
